The Department of Public Service, Division of Traffic Management Traffic Studies section is accepting resumes for a Traffic Management Center Specialist (Engineer Associate II) position. Duties for this position will include the following:
Monitors and operates the central traffic signal control computer system at a computer workstation;
Monitors and responds to real-time traffic conditions utilizing traffic flow monitors and information from the police, fire, and traffic engineers to adjust and optimize traffic signal timing to aid in mitigating traffic congestion;
Reviews project engineering plans for traffic signal controller timing, implements timing data onto the central traffic signal control system, and suggests changes as appropriate;
Creates maintenance work orders for communication outages for traffic signals;
Prepares engineering work orders involving freeway pavement markings and freeway-related signs;
Conducts routine inspections of freeway signage and sign structures along state routes;
Conducts annual inspections of overhead freeway sign structures along state routes;
Organizes and maintains working files of record time sheets, maps, incidents, timing changes, drawings, cost data sets, and other pertinent data related to the Traffic Management Center;
Responds to requests from traffic engineers and consultants for traffic signal timing data;
Consults with engineers on design for freeway-related overhead and ground-mounted signs and pavement markings.
To qualify you must have:
Completion of twelfth school grade
Three (3) years of experience performing paraprofessional engineering work
Valid driver’s license
Substitution(s): College education in engineering or a related curriculum may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis (thirty (30) semester/forty-five (45) quarter credit hours equals one (1) year). A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth school grade requirement.
