The City of Centerville, a “warm and cheerful” community with a population of approximately 24,000 located southeast of Dayton in Montgomery County has an exciting opportunity for full-time position of Maintenance Worker/Equipment Operator (Entry Level) in Public Works Department. The Public Works Department provides service-oriented functions for the City of Centerville including, but not limited to, engineering; street maintenance, including resurfacing and snow and ice control; building maintenance; horticultural maintenance; leaf collection; and waste and recycling collection. The Public Works Department strives to deliver exceptional services through thoughtful governance to ensure progress and stability.
Under supervision of the Public Works Supervisor and working under the direction of a crew leader, performs snow removal and ice control on roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots.
Repairs and patches streets, sidewalks and curbs, rebuilds street inlets and catch basins.
Assists with waste and recycling collection.
Assists in installing, maintaining, and removal of lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers in and around City property including edging, mulching, pruning, fertilizing, watering, grading, seeding, sowing sod, aerating, applying insecticides and herbicides, and mowing.
Straighten and replace city signs.
Install and paint barricade.
Service trucks and other equipment as needed.
Assists on brush clipping crew, leaf collection, and roadside and park clean up.
Operates compressor, crack sealer, motorized grounds maintenance equipment, and other motorized equipment with and without trailers.
Regular and predictable attendance.
Upholds the City’s mission, vision, and values.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of experience of working outdoors.
Experience performing general maintenance work.
A valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
Ability to work 10-hour days (40 hours/week) plus overtime as required.
Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds at least a distance of 30 yards.
The City’s Equipment Operator Training Program must be successfully completed within 36 months of hire date as a condition of continued employment.
Pay rate: $22.87 - $29.74 per hour per qualification and experience with excellent benefits.
