POSITION: MECHANIC WITH ASE CERTIFICATION
CLASS CODE: Bargaining Unit Position-Teamsters 957
SALARY RANGE: $24.67-30.31 per hour with benefits
OPEN UNTIL FILLED.
Performs skilled mechanical work in the servicing and maintenance of miscellaneous on-road and off-road
construction equipment and operates electronic record keeping systems. Work is performed under the supervision
of a Foreman. Incumbent has considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment.
Removes, disassembles, inspects and replaces parts, or overhauls, re-assembles and reinstalls various component
parts of assigned equipment;
Performs diversified electrical, mechanical and hydraulic work on assigned gasoline and diesel powered
equipment and non-powered equipment;
Performs diagnostic work on equipment utilizing advanced electronic, mechanical and hydraulic test equipment,
and road tests work for completeness;
Operates computer programs pertaining to vehicle maintenance, fueling/electronic interface and inventory
Develops equipment modifications necessary to improve or solve problems in the equipment and operates electric
or acetylene welding equipment;
Trains Mechanic 1 and Mechanic 2 as required;
Performs all essential duties of any equal or lower Bargaining Unit classification.
Knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools, diagnostic equipment, materials and equipment used to
complete maintenance of assigned equipment;
Ability to interpret technical manuals and read circuit diagrams;
Ability to identify problems and formulate corrective action;
Ability to develop and maintain effective work relations with supervisors and coworkers;
Ability to work in unpleasant environments.
MINIMUM CLASS REQUIREMENTS
Must possess high school diploma or GED. Valid State of Ohio Class A Commercial Driver's License with
Tanker (within 6 mos. Of employment) Must provide tools at time of appointment to position. Minimum
two (2) years verifiable experience in repair of heavy construction equipment (bulldozers, backhoes, rollers,
excavators, etc.) Or minimum one (1) year experience with proof of Original Equipment Manufacturer (Cat or
John Deere) comprehensive training.
OR: Technical degree in Automotive or Diesel and 1 year verifiable experience. (Extensive OEM training may
be substituted for Technical Degree). Must obtain ASE certification in Brakes, Electrical, Steering and
Suspension, and Engine Repairs. (Automotive and/or Truck repair) within one (1) year of appointment.
