The City of Centerville, Ohio, a “warm & cheerful” community with a population of approximately 24,000 located eight miles southeast of Dayton in Montgomery County is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time Certified Inspector. The Centerville community boasts bustling business centers, nationally recognized public and private schools, hundreds of  recreational and athletic programs, miles of hiking/biking trails, nearly 50 parks, The Golf Club at Yankee Trace renowned municipal golf course, beautiful Victorian Homestead Benham’s Grove, nationally accredited Police and Fire departments, fine dining, upscale shopping and charming historic downtown business district. The City of Centerville is a council-manager form of government dedicated to delivering exceptional services through thoughtful governance to ensure progress and stability.

Position Summary: Certified Inspector under general supervision inspects both new and existing residential/commercial structures, electrical ,mechanical plumbing installations to ensure compliance with governing codes and regulations; travel and gains access to work site; advises and provides explanation to contractors, homeowners , citizens of non-compliance; works with fire department(s) in evaluating fire safety of new and existing construction; maintains records of all buildings under constructions and daily inspections; performs all others related duties; and demonstrates a regular attendance.

Required Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include: high school diploma or equivalent; computer skills; a comprehensive knowledge of Ohio Building Code and Residential Code of Ohio, National Electric Code, Ohio Plumbing Code ; have building, electrical , plumbing experience approved by the Ohio Board of Building Standards.

Licensure and Certification Requirements: Must possess one of the certifications in Residential Building Inspector and/or Electrical Safety Inspector and/or Commercial Building Inspector and/or Plumbing Inspector by State of Ohio Board of building Standards. Certification is required for continued employment.

The pay range is $33.17 per hour—$43.12 per hour depending on qualifications and certifications, plus an excellent benefits package.
