The City of Centerville is accepting applications for the full-time position of Equipment Operator in the Streets and Refuse Divisions. The Public Works Department provides service-oriented functions for the City of Centerville. From refuse collection to road repair to flower plantings, the Public Works Department strives to deliver exceptional services through thoughtful governance to ensure progress and stability.
Position Responsibilities: Under general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor and working under the direction of a crew leader, operates one (1) or more types of heavy equipment and performs complex functions; services and minor repairs to equipment and keeps daily records of usage and servicing ; supervises and assists the crews with daily assigned duties in street maintenance, waste collection, or horticulture services; repairs and patches streets sidewalks and curb, rebuilds street inlets and catch basins; replaces traffic signals bulbs, miscellaneous signs, installs barricades; assists with waste collection, planting and maintaining city parks, roadways; collects and processes brush for reuse; constructs and maintains playground equipment; performs building maintenance activities ; skilled in all aspects of concrete installation ; understanding of Ohio Utilities Protection Services process ; must be available for after hours call – ins for emergency activities; assists in training other employees; performs other duties as assigned; demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Requirements: Ability to bend, lift and carry up to 60 pounds at least a distance of 30 yards; high school diploma or equivalent; two years of experience of working outdoors; a valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of employment; ability to work 10-hour days (40 hours/week) plus overtime as required.
