The City of Centerville is accepting applications for the full-time position of Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic in the Public Works Vehicle Maintenance Division. The Public Works Department provides service-oriented functions for the City of Centerville. From refuse collection to road repair to flower plantings, the Public Works Department strives to deliver exceptional services through thoughtful governance to ensure progress and stability.
The Mechanic performs general and preventative maintenance, diagnostics, overhauls and repairs on city vehicles and equipment (gasoline/diesel engines; manual/automatic transmissions; four wheel drive transfer units; differential units; hydraulic brakes & air brakes; steering and suspension systems; hydraulic systems; and starting & charging systems on various street, refuse, and public safety fleet vehicles and equipment). Duties include diagnosing and repairing body and driveline electronic computer systems, making electrical repairs, and performing general metal repairs (reconstructing, welding, fabricating, etc.).
Minimum Requirements: Ability to bend, lift and carry up to 60 pounds at least a distance of 30 yards; high school diploma or equivalent; three years experience in the service and repair of automotive, heavy duty trucks, or equipment; a valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement or obtain within 6 months of employment; ability to work 10-hour days (40 hours/week) plus overtime as required.
