Incumbent assists Fleet & Facilities Superintendent in the maintenance and repair of the Operations equipment, vehicles, and facility. Incumbent coordinates support activities, assigns work to support personnel, and oversees mechanical repairs ensuring work is completed in most time effective and cost efficient methods. Work is extremely complicated and non-standardized, requiring the incumbent to be continually aware of changes taking place in the industry. Superintendent provides the incumbent with general guidance, allowing the incumbent to plan the procedures and methods to be used to attain objectives. Incumbent reports to the Fleet & Facilities Superintendent.
Manages the ordering of repair parts and supplies for stockroom. Manages the scheduling and delivery of vehicles and components requiring outside repair service. Utilizes vehicle and equipment computer system (currently RTA) to prepare work orders, generate PM schedules, track fuel usage, and drivers' daily checklist program. Manages fuel system (currently PetroVend). Manages the maintenance and repair of the physical structure of the building(s) and grounds. Inspects on and off-road equipment for condition and cleanliness. Manages daily operation of garage, welding shop and stockrooms. Monitors two way radio, and schedules emergency road service and equipment repairs. Manages repair and maintenance of small motorized equipment. Prepares Equipment Out-of-Service list and coordinates repair schedule with Bridge, Road, and Traffic Departments. Assists with evaluation and recommendation for vehicles and equipment. Supervises, directs and coordinates the operations of the following support personnel classifications: Fuel Specialist, Mechanics, Stockroom Attendants, and Welder. Assists with support personnel training, testing, certifications, and records administration. Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Class Requirements
Completion of secondary education or equivalent, and special training usually gained through technical training/apprenticeships plus related work experience. Must possess a valid State of Ohio Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement. ASE Master Certification required in Automobile & Light Truck, and/or Medium & Heavy Trucks. Two years supervisory experience in a municipal fleet preferred.
