The Public Works Director serves as the Department Head for the Public Works Department overseeing the operations of street maintenance and reconstruction including but not limited to snow & ice removal; blacktopping; storm sewer maintenance; traffic signage maintenance; waste collection including refuse & recycling; fleet maintenance; facilities maintenance; and operations of the engineering division including but not limited to oversight of engineering plans and specifications for public improvements, final inspections of projects to ensure conformance with specifications and City codes, and reviewing plans for new subdivisions and developments. The Public Works Director reports to and advises the City Manager on all Public Works matters. Recommends and participates in the development and administration of the Public Works Department budget, forecasting funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials & supplies and approving expenditures as appropriate. Public speaking including presentations to City Council are required along with the ability to communicate effectively with the citizens of the community. The department consists of one director, one city engineer, one staff engineer, one operations manager, two division supervisors, and approximately 30 full-time employees consisting of group leaders, equipment operators, maintenance workers, laborers, vehicle maintenance mechanics, custodian, and administrative support staff. Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field with at least five years of experience supervising public works or construction activities, or equivalent combination of education and experience; a valid Ohio driver’s license; and Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
The 2020 pay range for this position is $104,864—$138,148 depending on qualifications, plus an excellent benefits package.
