The Springfield Civil Service Commission announces an OPEN-COMPETITIVE examination for the classified position of LABORATORY TECHNICIAN at the Water Treatment Plant.

This position is technical work in performing advanced and specialized chemical and bacteriological tests in a Water Treatment Plant Laboratory. Work involves the responsibility for conducting a variety of standardized and specialized laboratory tests on water samples at the treatment plant or in the field to ensure proper plant operation and compliance with applicable water quality standards. Work is performed with considerable technical independence under general supervision of the Plant Superintendent and the Assistant Plant Superintendent.
Successful applicants should have some education in chemistry, biology, or microbiology and experience in conducting chemical and bacteriological laboratory tests. Requires the ability to use laboratory equipment, including balances, incubator, spectrophotometer, pH and ISE meters and probes, in-line process analyzers, and turbid meters. In addition, this position requires a Class II Ohio EPA Water Supply Operator’s certificate within three years of appointment, as well as an Ohio EPA certificate of approval for laboratory analyses for chemical and bacteriological analysis with one year of appointment.
CREDIT FOR MILITARY SERVICE: Applicants who have been Honorably Discharged from active duty on the armed forces of the United States are eligible to receive an additional percentage of their cumulative passing score. Proof (i.e., a copy of the Honorable Discharge or the DD-214 specifying and HonorableDischarge) must be submitted with the application. No credit will be given if proof is submitted after the filing deadline.
*Any individual currently holding the position classification of Laboratory Technician in the Wastewater Treatment Plant who is interested in applying for a Lateral Transfer to this position vacancy must file a request with the Personnel Department by the close of business Friday, March 1, 2019.
