Under the direction of the Director or Deputy Director of Public Service, the individual in this position performs a variety of supervisory, administrative, technical and maintenance activities; oversees assigned staff and crews involved in planning, organizing, coordinating, repairing, operating, installation and repair of infrastructure and maintaining equipment in the following divisions: Storm Water Collection, Storm Water Retention and Detention Facilities, Wastewater Collection, Solid Waste, Snow and Ice Removal and Leaf Collection. Assesses and assists with departmental operations, prepares budgets, oversees contracts and participates in City infrastructure planning and replacement. Responds to Public Service emergencies utilizing and maintaining defined procedures and coordinates activities assigned i.e. storm damage, flooding and snow and ice removal.
Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or technical school in engineering, construction management or environmental science and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience, including a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience; or any combination of training, education, or experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensure and Certification Requirements
A valid State of Ohio Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License, with air brake and tanker endorsements required within twelve (12) months of hire
A satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment
Class II Wastewater Collection Certification or the ability to secure within 12 months
Personal computer operation, use of modern office equipment; printer, copy machine, fax machine, other standard business office equipment, cell phone, motor vehicle; motor vehicle operation; vactor, sewer jet, camera equipment, use of maintenance equipment; utility locating equipment; use of hand and/or power tools.
Physical Demands/Requirements Lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling (strength): Lifting objects in excess of 40 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 20 pounds or more. The employee shall regularly work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places, and is frequently exposed to wet, dry, hot, cold and humid conditions as well as fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibrations. The noise level for the work environment is usually loud.
