The Butler County Engineer’s Office (BCEO), Butler County, Ohio is seeking applicants for a Fleet Mechanic. The Fleet Mechanic will work under the general supervision of the Operations Manager and Working Supervisor. The qualified candidate must have the skills necessary to perform preventive and service maintenance, skilled mechanical repair, diagnostic work to vehicles and motorized heavy equipment, roadside mowers and other gas or diesel fueled equipment and tools. The candidate must be able to work alone or as part of a crew. The Fleet Mechanic will be responsible for properly reporting labor, equipment and materials used in performance of their daily duties. The Fleet Mechanic will be required to be available for occasional emergency service and will be required to be available for snow and ice removal during evening and night hours. A priority for this and all BCEO positions is to responsibly and efficiently serve the residents of Butler County.
The Fleet Mechanic must have an ASE Certification as a truck or automobile technician. They must also have a Valid Ohio Driver’s License with less than 6 points and must either have a Class A CDL (with airbrake endorsement) driver’s license, or obtain one within 60 days after hire date. The qualified candidate must be a high school graduate or equivalent, must be able to accept on-call duties and be able to report to the Butler County Engineer’s Office within 45 minutes of the call, work flexible hours, work alone or with others, have the ability to read and write, comprehend and act upon written instruction and to know and understand policies and procedures.
The Fleet Mechanic must be able to work under conditions common to motor vehicle repair and heavy equipment, which may require turning, twisting, bending, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, repetitive motion or overhead work. Employee must be able to lift tools and equipment that may weigh up to 100 pounds. Must be able to climb on and under vehicles to repair and inspect in a variety of adverse conditions including inclement weather. Incumbent will be required to use safety glasses, face shield, gloves, steel toe shoes, ear protection and head protection as required by OSHA and BCEO safety policies and procedures.
The employee in this position will work from the Butler County Engineers Office. Normal hours of work are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Winter), Monday through Friday and 7:00 am. to 3:30 pm. (Summer), Monday through Friday.
