TO ESTABLISH AN ELIGIBILITY LIST FOR THE POSITION OF:

PLEASE  NOTE***THE CDL REQUIREMENT FOR THE POSITION OF MILLWRIGHT-IN-TRAINING HAS BEEN SUSPENDED.  IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THIS PAY GRADE, EMPLOYEE MUST OBTAIN THE MINIMUM OF CLASS "B" CDL WITH TANKER & AIRBRAKE ENDORSEMENT WITHIN 2  YEARS FROM DATE OF HIRE!!

FILING OF APPLICATION

Application must be made on the regular application forms available in the office of the Lorain Civil Service Commission, 7th floor, Lorain City Hall, 200 West Erie Ave, Lorain, Ohio 44052 OR applications are also now available online at cityoflorain.org. go under Civil Service Department and then Job Application and follow the 4 step instructions. The Civil Service will begin accepting applications on Monday, July 10, 2017 through Friday, July 21, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Applications may be hand delivered only by you or your representative between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  The office is closed on holidays and every day from approximately 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.  

EXAMINATION

TIME:            Tuesday,  July 25, 2017   6:00 p.m. REPORT PROMPTLY

PLACE:         General Johnnie Wilson Middle School

                        2700 Washington Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052

SCOPE:         The written exam will include but not be limited to questions on algebra, geometry, mechanical capabilities, ability to identify & resolve problems, application of principles of logic, maintenance & minor repair of equipment, safety & use of equipment.  You may bring a non-scientific calculator to the exam.  A 70% passing point will be used on this examination.

                        ELIGIBILITY

This is an entry-level examination. Applicants must be a United States citizen or have legally declared their intentions of becoming one.  Applicants must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.  Applicants must possess and show at time of application a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence.  Applicants must be proficient in Algebra and Geometry.  Must have initiative to study for Water Purification Plant Operator Class I license or Water Pollution Control Plant Operator Class I license.

All potential City of Lorain Civil Service classified employees will be required to successfully pass a background investigation and a basic pre-employment physical and drug test administered under the direction of the City of Lorain prior to their appointment.   All potential candidates for this position will be required to take and pass a job related test and/or practical test administered by the Civil Service Commission and supervisory staff.   A passing grade of seventy (70) percent must be achieved on this test.

RATING 

Upon passing, your name will be placed on the list of eligibles.  Upon passing, 20% veteran’s credit will be awarded to qualified applicants who show certified proof of honorable discharge or discharge under honorable conditions.  A member in good standing of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States, including the Ohio National Guard, who successfully completes the member’s initial entry-level training shall receive a credit of 15% of the person’s total grade given in the examination in which the person receives a passing grade who also show certified proof of honorable discharge or discharge under honorable conditions.
