Applications for the classified position of State Certified Electrical Safety Inspector in the Building/Electrical division of the Lorain Building, Housing & Planning Department are available on a continuous basisbeginning Monday, March 13, 2017 through Friday, December 29, 2017. Applications may be picked up and/or submitted between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the office of the Lorain Civil Service Commission located at 200 West Erie Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052. Applicants must be United States citizens or have legally declared their intentions of becoming one. Applicants must have high school Diploma or GED. All applicants must possess a valid Ohio Drivers license to be shown at time of application. Considerable experience as journeyman electrician, including work on a variety of construction and installation jobs; completion of standard high school or vocational school course supplemented by courses in electricity and electronics; any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities and additional requirements. MUST POSSESS A VALID ELECTRICAL SAFETYINSPECTOR CERTIFICATION. An Interim certificate will be accepted with the understanding that employee meets requirements within 18 months as an Electrical Safety Inspector by the Ohio Board of Building Standards; A State Certified Electrical Safety Inspector must possess the necessary qualifications required by the State of Ohio Board of Building Standards, for certification as an Electrical Safety Inspector and must maintain an active certification status.
A State Certified Electrical Safety Inspector performs skilled inspection work under the direct supervision of a Class I State of Ohio Certified Building Official; enforces compliance with the National Electrical Code, the CABO One and Two and Three Family Dwellings, the City of Lorain Planning and Zoning Code and related ordinances.
